A brief history of the Knole Sofa The original Knole Settee (also known as the Knole Sofa ) is a couch chair that was made in the 17th century, probably around 1640. [1] It is housed at Knole in Kent , a house owned by the Sackville-West family since 1605 but now in the care of the National Trust . It was originally used not as a comfortable sofa but as a formal throne on which the monarch would have sat to receive visitors. It was wide enough that a monarch and consort could be seated side by side. [1] The design features adjustable side arms and considerable depth of seating, it usually has exposed wooden finials at the rear corner tops, and some exposed wood may be present on the arms. The arms, more correctly sides, are of the same height. The side arms are tied to the sofa back by means of heavy decorative braid, often with an elaborate tassel. Course Overview Course Title: 1 to 1 Tuition Upholstery Course Duration: 1 Day Location: Unit 1A Woodlands Farm, Blacknest Road, ALTON, Hampshire, GU34 4QB Instructor: Dale, Master Upholsterer and Textile Expert Course Fee: £480.00 What You Will Learn: Depending on your skill level and interests, you can expect to learn: Basic upholstery techniques. Fabric selection and cutting. Tool usage and safety. Cushion making. Reupholstering a small piece of furniture. We will tailor the curriculum to match your goals and experience level, ensuring that you get the most out of your time with us. Bespoke Training for Businesses: We also provide bespoke training for a variety of businesses wishing to train and up-skill their staff. These tailored sessions are designed to meet your specific requirements. You tell us what you would like to learn and achieve, and we then develop a programme with you that meets your needs. Terms and Conditions - General The Contract exists between The Upholstery Rooms and the Client (whose name appears overleaf). The contract will include those instructions written into the contract only. We endeavour to deliver items forming part of this contract at the specified time, our obligation however, is to deliver on time providing that the materials to complete the work are available at the time the work is to be undertaken. We will keep the client informed at all times of supply problems, or other factors, which can affect delivery times. To avoid confusion telephone orders will not be accepted. Changes to orders can only be accepted in writing. Any problems with an order must be bought to our attention within seven days of receipt of the order. Thereafter charges will be made for any corrections. We do our best to advise customers of the suitability of fabrics, whether supplied by us or not, however, we can only take responsibility for materials which are supplied by us ONLY; covering fabric supplied by the Client is at their own risk. Shortage of covering fabric supplied by the Client is the Client’s responsibility. We reserve the right to apply a 20% surcharge for handling fabrics not supplied by us. There will be a surcharge if we are given many small pieces from which to make a product. Carriage and Delivery charges are extra (unless agreed) We cannot be held responsible for fabric flaws. If we cannot cut round them you will be notified. Where printed and woven fabrics will not pattern match accurately, we will inform you for further instructions. We reserve the right to add a surcharge to the make-up costs where fabrics, woven or printed off-grain, require extra time to make and where fabrics and patterns behave unexpectedly. We cannot be held responsible for the present or future behaviour of the treatment/fabric/trims, such as wearing and deterioration, stretching, shrinking, staining, cleanability, fading or damage to person or property, where the consumer has acted against the manufacturer’s/retailer’s instructions i.e. washing instructions, steaming etc. We will not be responsible for charges if you have another company make corrections – you will still be responsible for the original bill. Charges will be made for any corrections that are not our fault. Holiday cut-off dates: Orders and fabrics must be received by 1st February for pre-Easter delivery and 1st October for pre-Christmas delivery. Insurance Claims: We undertake all work on behalf of the client named overleaf. However, it is they who are responsible for the payment of the account. In the case of Insurance companies and Insurance work, we will undertake the work on the clear understanding that the account will be paid by the client named overleaf, when the account becomes due as described in clause. Where work is undertaken in relation to an insurance claim, a 50% payment on acceptance of the estimate will be payable by the client, unless an agreement exists between us and the insurers to pay the account directly. Complaints: Will be dealt with a quickly as possible and resolution of the same will be our prime objective. Complaints, which cannot be resolved through us, may be referred to The Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers, who will arbitrate and suggest a course of action, which is acceptable to both parties. The Association may charge a fee for this service. Payment terms: A 40% non-refundable payment is required for us to accept an order. The balance is due in full on delivery. Interest on overdue accounts will be charged at 1½% per month or part thereof. Prices quoted stand for 30 days. A payment of 40% will form an acceptance of the terms and conditions above. ADDITIONAL UPHOLSTERY TERMS Any additional instructions must be confirmed in writing and a price agreed for the additional work and materials, before the work can proceed. Additional work, which may not be apparent when the estimate is provided, will be advised to the client on discovery, and a course of action agreed. This includes frame repairs, which are hidden by upholstery. All old covers will be removed prior to upholstery, these covers will be discarded unless the client advises that they are to be returned, this advice must be written into the order. All new fillings applied to furniture manufactured after 1950 will be in compliance with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. All new covering fabric supplied by us will comply with the regulations with the exception of covers which contain 75% natural fibres, when it is acceptable to use an FR interliner/barrier cloth which complies with the regulations. Furniture manufactured prior to 1950 does not come within the scope of the 1988 Regulations with regard to filling or cover. With regard to the Client’s own material. When a Client supplies his/her own materials, it is their responsibility to ensure that the fabric is suitable for the purpose for which they intend to use it and that it complies with the relevant regulations in force with regard to Fire and Safety (as described in Clause 4).

Delivery & Returns Policy UK Delivery: Fabric on the Roll: Mainland UK dispatch is by UPS Delivery at £13.99 . Estimated delivery time: 2 - 4 Business Days (excluding weekends and public holidays). We do not hold stock, once the stock is confirmed by the warehouse, we can fulfill your order. Folded Fabric: We also offer Royal Mail at £4.95. Estimated delivery time: 2 - 3 Business Days (excluding weekends and public holidays). Please note that fabrics are sent folded on this option. Sample Orders: Sample orders delivery is free up to a max of 5 samples. Estimated delivery time: 2 - 4 Business Days (excluding weekends and public holidays). Due to the extensive range of products we offer, we are unable to keep stock of most fabrics. Therefore, we typically request that suppliers send samples directly to you when possible. For this reason, we cannot accept returns because the customer does not like the product or has changed their mind.
